It’s amazing to think it was twenty years ago that Fred Hammond first emerged onto the gospel scene with his band, Commissioned. Over the last two decades, he’s been a pioneer of new gospel sounds and is now one of the most respected artists on the planet. His new album is thematically summarised in its title Somethin’ Bout Love, with songs investigating different aspects of love. Highlights include Lord We Need Your Love, which features vocals from Marvin Winans and Brian McKnight. Musiq and Hezekiah Walker’s Love Fellowship Choir add their talents to Love’s In Need whilst Celebrate (He Lives) is the funkiest song of thanks you could imagine. The tag ‘gospel genius’ still rings powerfully true for Hammond.
